MTY Food Group is looking for a tax manager who will report to the Senior Director of Tax Treasury and Risk Management.

MTY is currently seeking a dedicated and resourceful tax manager for its global operations. This person’s primary objectives will be to ensure the Company is meeting its Canadian compliance obligations; supporting the Company’s quarterly public reporting and tax accounting; assisting with the tax considerations of the Company’s ongoing M&A strategy; and assisting with tax planning initiatives on global tax initiatives designed to improve the Company’s effective tax rate and reduce cash taxes paid.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison with the auditors, CRA, and other taxing authorities.
  • Act as a liaison with external tax service provider(s), including:
  • Understand and manage scope and status of tax deliverables completed by external tax service provider(s)
  • Identify requirements for, and manage connections between, MTY and external tax service provider(s)
  • Work with external tax service provider(s) to:
  • Review Canadian and provincial tax returns and working papers.
  • Review quarterly tax provisions that support the Company’s external financial statements. Review may include drafting all related tax disclosures and tax presentations.
  • Review tax installment calculations for the Company’s Canadian operations balancing cash flow with minimizing installment interest charges and penalties.
  • Review forms and calculations required for a group having an international scale, such as T1134 forms. Work independently and/or with external tax service provider(s) to:
  • Provide tax advice on sales contract structuring including analysis of alternative entities/countries to maximize cash flow and minimize withholding taxes.
  • Support acquisition due diligence by identifying tax issues and risks tied to target companies.
  • Provide support for tax planning initiatives aimed at minimizing cash taxes paid and reducing risks associated with filing positions.
  • Work with MTY leaders and teams, as well as external tax service provider(s) as required to:
  • Identify opportunities to translate high-level, complex tax requirements into functional reports and analytical tools
  • Complete ad-hoc analysis as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting with a Masters in taxation;
  • Must possess an Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA);
  • Minimum of 6-8 years relevant experience in tax;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Canadian Income Tax Manager;
  • Experience in International transactions, as well as in acquisitions of companies would be an asset;
  • Experience in the preparation, analysis and review of Canadian tax returns and tax provisions;
  • Familiarity with IFRS;
  • Show resourcefulness, autonomy, accuracy, initiative, commitment and have a good analytical and business mind;
  • Adaptable and comfortable with change as well as ability to meet deadlines and prioritize
  • Strong skills of the office tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Bilingual with a stronger emphasis on English
